¼â½ÐÊÓƵ’s Office of the Bursar will bill all ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ students studying abroad before the start of each term. All fees can be paid on the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ study abroad application by clicking the appropriate material.
Payment for ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University-administered summer or short-term programs is made directly to Global ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ. Payments can be made via Visa, MasterCard, or AmEx. Fees can also be paid by mailing a check to Global ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ at ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University, 1073 North Benson Road, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ, CT 06824. All checks should be made out to “¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University”.
The use of financial aid for study abroad programs depends on your home university's policies. Please contact your home institution's Financial Aid office for additional information.
For ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Students: The Monthly Tuition Payment Plan is available. A percentage of Dependent Grant-in-Aid can be used for study abroad tuition. Please contact Human Resources for details.
Students studying abroad are often eligible for alternative scholarships and are encouraged to use these resources to reduce their financial burden. Some scholarships can be used to pay parts of tuition while others can be put toward flights or living expenses.
All ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ scholarships and aid, including federal funds, can be used towards study abroad expenses for one semester with the exceptions of athletic scholarships, FACHEX, tuition exchange, and work-study monies.
Students who study abroad through ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University for a semester on an approved program are charged regular ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ tuition. All ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ scholarships and aid, including federal funds, can be used towards study abroad expenses for one semester with the exceptions of athletic scholarships, FACHEX, tuition exchange and work-study monies. With the approval of the Associate Vice Provost for Global Strategy, students with Modern Language, International Business, and International Studies majors may use ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University financial aid for two semesters abroad on select programs. Housing and meal charges will vary by location. Students who study abroad on a semester/year program are required to submit a $1,000 housing commitment fee upon commitment. This fee reduces the housing fee or in limited cases the tuition fee for the semester the student is abroad. Students can find the included costs, i.e. the program fee, in the Cost Sheet section of the program website/brochure page. Program fees typically include the approved credits per the student’s enrollment, accommodations, all excursions and site visits included in the program itinerary, CISI Health and Safety insurance, program Orientation, 24/7 onsite support and often in-country transportation from the designated airport. Each faculty led program has specific deadlines which also can be found on the program website/brochure page. Students who wish to use financial aid for a faculty-led program are encouraged to connect with the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University Office of Financial Aid prior to committing to the program to explore the possibility of having their financial aid package readjusted to include costs associated with the program.
A student may cancel their program participation prior to departure. Should a student decide to cancel, the student may still be assessed any portion of those costs which are non-recoverable to ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University up to and including all tuition, housing, board, and/or any programming fees for the full length of the program in which they are enrolled. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University is not responsible for personal expenses, visas, airfare, books, personal travel, incidentals, transportation costs, etc. not directly paid by ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University or included in the published program fees.
If students wish to insure against the financial impact of an interruption or cancellation of program abroad, please refer to the options for Cancel for any Reason (CFAR) or Interrupt for any Reason (IFAR) travel insurance.
¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University reserves the right to make cancellations, changes or substitutions in cases of emergency or changed conditions. Should ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University cancel a program prior to departure, any program fees paid to ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University would be reimbursed. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University is not responsible for non-¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University billed expenses such as visas, flights, etc. if the program is canceled.
A student may request to withdraw from their program at any point after departure. All requests must be received in writing to the Global ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ account (globalfairfield@fairfield.edu). ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University is not required to approve withdrawal requests. If ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University authorizes a withdrawal, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University cannot guarantee the completion of courses interrupted by an early return or guarantee that any credits, grades, or transcripts will be awarded or that any portion of the costs associated with the entirety of the program in which the student is enrolled including tuition, fees, housing, board and programming fees will be refunded. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University is not responsible for personal expenses, visas, airfare, books, personal travel, incidentals, transportation costs, etc. not directly paid by ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University or included in the published program fees.
Per the medical insurance provider, a student request for a withdrawal for medical reasons must be verified by our medical insurance provider prior to departure from the program for support and benefits to apply.
If the student complies with the medical verification, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University and the hosting University/partner will review the request and respond accordingly. All decisions are final. If the student does not comply with the medical verification and withdraws from the program without approval no credit or transcript will be awarded and no program fees will be refunded.
If a student requests a withdrawal for personal reasons ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University will require verification and may request additional documentation in order to approve the withdrawal. If a student does not comply with the request for verification and withdraws from the program without approval no credit or transcript will be awarded and no program fees will be refunded.
In the event of the death of immediate family members a student may request Bereavement leave. Global ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ will support students through this process as there are requirements for both ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University and the host institution that students must follow. Students must make their request directly with their Global ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Advisor. Students will be guided on next steps within the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ and the host institution policies in order to ensure support for travel, insurance benefits, and minimal impact on the students academics. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ cannot overrule the host institution absence or leave policies. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ will work with the students to ensure that they are able to make an informed decision around their leave request.
Students will be required to submit the following information:
Students who study abroad in a fall semester or year-long program are required to submit a $1,000 commitment to ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University by March 1. Spring program fees are due by May 1. This fee is part of the total program tuition cost. For summer short-term programs, there are two phases of approval, December 15 adn January 15. The full program fee to commit for the summer program is due either January 15 or February 1.
Upon program acceptance, students will be required to pay a $500 Housing Security Deposit. This may be refundable to the student upon final review by the local landlord and staff. Refunds may take between 4 and 6 weeks to process.
Depending on your home institution, students who study abroad for a semester/year program may be required to submit a program balance fee. If applicable, this fee will be listed on your study abroad application. Balances are due on the following dates:
The non-refundable deposit of $1,000 will indicate a student’s commitment to a Study Abroad Program. The deposit is unrecoverable once received, and, should the student decide to withdraw, additional refund monies will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The non-refundable deposit is applied to the semester tuition while abroad and will be reflected in the final invoice.
