What is the Career Peer Advisor Program


The CPA Program is a student leadership program open to sophomore, junior, and senior students interested in helping underclassmen develop career readiness skills. CPAs receive extensive training from the Career Center staff and use that knowledge to meet with and guide students in the career planning process.

 

CPA Responsibilities

 

Resume Building

Critique existing resumes and create resumes from scratch

Cover letter help

Help students construct cover letters and tailor them to specific positions

LinkedIn

Offer advice on how to maximize usage of LinkedIn

Stags4Hire help

Show students how to navigate Stags4Hire to find internships and jobs

Interview Preparation

Aid students in their preparation for interviews

CPA Expectations

There is a mandatory training session for all CPAs at the beginning of the semester.

CPAs are expected to volunteer for 4-7 hours per week during the Career Center’s drop-in hours and at events/programs on campus. CPAs can:

  • Conduct presentations to clubs and residence halls
  • Assist with career fairs
  • Host their own events

The Career Center hosts drop-in hours from 1-4 pm Monday-Thursday.

The Career Peer Advisor program is a great way for upperclassmen to give back.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8
  • Demonstrated engagement in personal career development, including but not limited to experience with individual counseling alongside Career Center staff, completion of Sophomore Success, and/or attendance at Career Center events and workshops
  • Interest in helping fellow students with career-related questions and concerns
  • Ability to present in a group setting and collaborate with peers effectively
  • Previous internship or work experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel preferred) and social media tools
