These lists highlight the top 25 colleges in specific categories, selected based on the feedback of 168,000 students surveyed at the schools included in the book, who evaluated their colleges on a wide range of topics, from academics to campus life. The surveys were conducted during the 2023-24 academic year and/or the two preceding academic years.

The Princeton Review does not provide an overall hierarchical ranking of the 390 schools in the book from 1 to 390. Instead, it identifies the top 25 schools in each of its 50 ranking list categories.

Best Career Services rankings are determined based on students' answers to the survey question: ‘How do you rate your school's career/job placement services?’”

Best Student Support and Counseling Services rankings are determined “based on students' answers to the survey question, ‘How do you rate your school's student support and counseling services?’”

Most Active Student Government rankings are “based on how strongly students agree or disagree with the statement, ‘Student government has an active presence and a tremendous impact on campus life.’”
