Julie Berrett-Abebe, PhD, LICSW, assistant professor of social work, had the following abstract accepted for the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education Conference, in collaboration with Smith, L., Novella, J., Shamash, E., Martin, A., Smith, E., Storms, S., and Grupp, L., titled “Working Towards Anti-Racist Pedagogy through Shared Critical Reflection.”

Nicole Fletcher, PhD, assistant professor of educational studies and teacher preparation, received the Supporting Proposals and Unique Research (SPUR) Program award from ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University.

Paula Gill Lopez, PhD, director of the School Psychology Program, gave the following three presentations: “Multicultural Organizational Development (MCOD) — Looking Through an Equity Lens into the Heart of your Organization’s Operations and Strategic Initiatives“ at the NASP Regional Leadership Meeting as CASP State Representative; “Achieving SEL Outcomes with Mindfulness” workshop for Milford Public School District professional development; and “Put on Your Oxygen Mask First,” keynote presentation for the Association of School Nurses of Connecticut.

Stephaney Morrison, PhD, LPC, NBCC, associate dean of SEHD and associate professor of counselor education, presented “Trauma informed approach to work with immigrant and refugee students in k-12” at the Connecticut School Counselors Association Conference. She also continues to serve as a School Counseling Advisory Board member for the Stamford School District and is serving as a Connecticut State Department of Education School Counseling Proposal Evaluator.

Jocelyn Novella, PhD, assistant professor of counselor education, conducted a virtual workshop for Connecticut Counseling Association/CT Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, titled “A Comparison of Online and In-Person Counseling Using Solution-Focused Brief Therapy for College Students with Mild to Moderate Anxiety.” She was also awarded the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University Center for Social Impact Community-Engaged Learning Grant and was recognized by the Connecticut Counseling Association (CCA) with the Professional Development Award for her contributions to the development of the counseling profession. Lastly, Dr. Novella presented "Revisiting our Wellness Inventory and Planning for Future Wellness" to the North Atlantic Regional Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Wellness Committee.

Dilani Perera, PhD, LPC-S, LDCD, chair of counselor education, presented “Ethics and self care” at the Connecticut Counseling Association Conference with Wurm, T. She also presented the following research, titled “Telemental health training in counselor education: A qualitative research study” at the Innovative Research Symposium with Debicella, T. J., Edwards, L. P., Ewert, C., and Novella, J.

Emily Shamash, EdD and Alyson Martin, EdD co-facilitated a professional development workshop on working with families of students with disabilities for teachers at Cooperative Educational Services (CES) located in Trumbull, Conn. They also wrote the article “The shift to online engagement for a post-secondary transition group of students with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism” which was accepted in the peer-reviewed journal Special Education Research, Policy & Practice. Additionally, they welcomed motivational youth speaker David Flood and 200 participants to the Quick Center to hear Flood discuss inclusion of all people, kindness, dignity, understanding, patience, and forgiveness. This summer Drs. Martin and Shamash will again develop a training module on accommodations and modifications for all K-12 learners for the College Corps CT program.
