Julián Nazario, a junior majoring in digital journalism and politics at ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University, is quickly making a name for himself in the world of digital journalism. With a passion for storytelling and a commitment to innovation,Nazario has been actively involved in various campus media outlets and has even secured a prestigious internship at NBC New York.

Nazario's journey into journalism began in high school, where he founded his school's digital newspaper. His dedication to the field continued at ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University, where he has held leadership positions in The ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Mirror and The Rearview. His involvement in these organizations has allowed him to hone his skills as a journalist and explore different aspects of the media industry.

"Professor Tommy Xie has been a mentor to me, from providing feedback on the dozens of articles I’ve written in the last two years to inviting me to become a member of the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) organization,”" Julián said. "Even before I committed to the University, he was already going out of his way to ensure I had all my questions answered."

Nazario's passion for digital journalism and politics was solidified by his experience covering the 2023 "Protect the Beach" election. His breaking news article on a misinformation campaign demonstrated his ability to identify and report on important stories.

At The Rearview,Nazario has played a key role in shaping the organization's mission and direction. As a multimedia platform, The Rearview provides students with opportunities to explore their passions and develop their skills in various areas of journalism.

“[Working with The Rearview] has been one of the most risky but rewarding moves I've made," Julián reflects. "Our primary goal is to provide students with a different and refreshing outlet to explore their passions and career opportunities. We know that we live in a world that is currently being challenged to innovate constantly, and The Rearview is our way of responding to that call.”

Nazario's dedication to his craft has earned him recognition and opportunities. He has been accepted into the prestigious Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) organization and has secured an internship at NBC New York, where he will gain valuable experience in the digital journalism field. As part of his experience, he will be working closely with the team to process AP stories, write original copy, and shoot and edit videos.

As Nazario looks to the future, he is excited to embark on a career in journalism and politics. This fall, he is interning at NBC New York in the Digital department.

"This will be an opportunity for me to discover my passion for journalism in the country's top media market while also gaining crucial work experience that will further expand my career," he said. "As part of my experience, I will be working closely with the team to process AP stories, write original copy, and shoot and edit videos. Also, what better time to be a journalism and politics student interning at a major news station!"
