The junior bested a 59-golfer field at the two-day event.
Sydney Nethercott ‘24 turned in a dominant performance on Monday, Oct. 3, at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield, Conn., leading the field by five strokes after Round 1 of the Hartford Women’s Invitational. Nethercott maintained her edge through harsh weather in Tuesday’s final round to claim individual medalist honors and lead ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Women’s Golf to a share of the team title.
"I am extremely proud of the team and how they battled these past few days," said director of ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Golf Doug Holub. "Fighting illness and the weather, they showed the strength that I always knew they had in them. This win is a product of consistent effort and will, as they continue to push us toward accomplishing the goals that we have set for our program."
In the team standings, the Stags overcame a two-stroke deficit after Round 1, surging on Tuesday to tie Merrimack atop the final leaderboard. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ bested opposition from Albany, Hartford, Bryant, Siena, Hofstra, Stonehill, and Assumption at the 36-hole tournament.
Nethercott was one of four Stags among the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. Addy Douglas ’23 finished ninth overall in the 59-golfer field, with Grace Kryscio ’24 and graduate student Julia Towne sharing 19th place on the ledger.
¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Women’s Golf is back in action on Oct. 10-11 for the Quinnipiac Classic in Wallingford.
