The first annual 5K will benefit The Cure Starts Now and is co-sponsored by ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ's Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, and the Bridgeport Hospital Nurse Anesthesia Program Wellness Committee.
On October 23, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University’s Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies and the Bridgeport Hospital Nurse Anesthesia Program Wellness Committee will host the inaugural Finley’s Feet 5K at ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University, in memory of Finley Maguire who passed away after her battle with brain cancer before her second birthday. Finley’s mother, Melanie, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at Bridgeport Hospital and clinical faculty for the program. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K will start at 10 a.m. on Lessing Field Track. A rain date for the event is October 24, 2021.
“This is a very special event, as wellness is an important initiative within our Nurse Anesthesia Program. In the spirit of 'think globally, act locally,' we chose an individual in our community to honor and raise awareness for the cause. Finley’s Feet 5K encapsulates this theme, such that participants will honor her life and participate in a wellness event for themselves. All donations are going to support this important cause," said Assistant Program Director and Assistant Professor of the Practice Steven Belmont, DNP, CRNA, APRN.
Proceeds from the 5K will be donated to The Cure Starts Now, a grassroots charity dedicated to pursuing cancer research on fronts that offer the most promise, rather than fighting cancer by the numbers. The Cure Starts Now has funded more than $16.4 million for research, grants, and hospitals worldwide, in partnership with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Collaborative.
