The regular season champs will battle for their third straight NCAA berth in Sunday's MAAC Championship Game at Rafferty Stadium.
Kelly Horning ’21 was named the Midfielder of the Year and Maggie Reynolds ’21 was selected as Defensive Player of the Year to highlight the awards garnered by ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University Women's Lacrosse as the MAAC announced their year-end plaudits. Horning, Reynolds, and grad student Meaghan Graham ’20 were all tabbed to the All-MAAC First Team.
As a unit, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Women's Lacrosse is currently 12-1 on the season. The Stags captured the 2021 MAAC Regular Season Championship and will host Siena on Sunday, May 9 at noon at Rafferty Stadium in the MAAC Championship Game with a berth in the NCAA postseason at stake.
Horning is ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ's first-ever MAAC Midfielder of the Year; additionally she received her second straight All-MAAC First Team nod. She has scored a team-best 33 goals with 41 total points. A true two-way midfielder, Horning is one of just two players in the nation to currently average three points, three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and four draw controls per game.
Reynolds follows her former teammate Megan Beach '19 as ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ's second-straight MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. She is the anchor of the MAAC's toughest scoring defense (10.5 goals per game allowed), picking up 13 ground balls with 16 caused turnovers. As a key part of the Stags' clearing game, Reynolds has also handed out four assists while running the field in transition.
Graham picks up her first-ever All-MAAC nod with a First Team selection in her fifth year with the Stags. She has scored 30 goals and ranks second with 13 assists for a team-best 43 points. Graham has scored the game winner in four of the Stags' 11 victories, highlighted by the go-ahead goal with only 37 seconds to play in last Wednesday's regular season finale at Monmouth.
Caroline Mangan ‘22 earned a place on the All-MAAC Second Team after starting all 11 games for the Stags' stingy defensive unit. She has corralled 12 ground balls with 10 caused turnovers. Mangan was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2019.
Rounding out ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ's honorees, a trio of newcomers was selected to the MAAC All-Rookie Team: Rylee Harrell ’24, Brooke Lennon ’24 and Phoebe Proctor ’24.
