Stags Surging at MAAC Basketball Championships

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Men to Play in Friday’s Semifinal Round, TONIGHT at 8 p.m. on ESPNU

Thrilling victories and clutch performances have led ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Men’s Basketball into the semifinal round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Basketball Championships. The Stags take the court against Saint Peter’s TONIGHT (Friday, March 12) at 8 p.m. on ESPNU and with a trip to Saturday’s finals at stake.

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ has already secured a pair of victories this week in Atlantic City. The seventh-seeded Stags outlasted #10 Manhattan in overtime, 59-58, in Tuesday’s opening round behind 16 points from Jesus Cruz ’21. Twenty-four hours later, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ stunned #2 Monmouth in the quarterfinals, racing past the Hawks by a score of 79-60. Taj Benning ’21 and Supreme Cook ’24 each posted a double-double in the win.

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ’s challenger on Friday will be #3 Saint Peter’s. The Stags and Saint Peter’s split a two-game set in Jersey City during the regular season. Tonight's winner advances to the 2021 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Games on Saturday, March 13 at 4 p.m. on ESPNU.

Head Coach Joe Frager also led ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Women’s Basketball on a run to the semifinals. The Stags earned the #4 seed in the tournament and upended #5 Manhattan, 51-40, in a Thursday quarterfinal matchup. All-MAAC First Team selection Lou Lopez-Senechal ’22 led the effort with 21 points. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ’s tournament stay came to a close on Friday afternoon with a 66-50 loss to top-seeded Marist.
