Assistant Professor Adam Rugg, PhD and Assistant Professor Matt Tullis, MFA joined host J.J. Duke on the Stags Sports Network podcast this week to discuss the new undergraduate Sports Media program launching in the fall 2020 semester. The interdisciplinary major is a part of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Rugg, assistant professor in the Department of Communication, and Tullis, assistant professor of English and director of the Digital Journalism program, are the co-directors of the Sports Media program. They discussed the curriculum, which will encompass the main industry components of the sports media environment — journalism, broadcasting, communication, and public relations — and combine them with a critical approach to studying sports that is rooted in the liberal arts and in ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ’s Jesuit mission.
During the Stags Sports Network podcast, the program directors also talked with host J.J. Duke about the opportunities available for ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ sports media majors to gain experience both on campus in the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Stags’ Division I Athletic Department and with worldwide industry leaders headquartered in the Northeast, such as ESPN in Bristol, Conn.
