Men’s Lacrosse Off to 2-0 Start, Two Stags Win CAA Weekly Honors

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ will host Quinnipiac at Rafferty Stadium this Saturday, Feb. 29.

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University men’s lacrosse has kicked off its Head Coach Andrew Baxter era with a pair of victories on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The Stags bested Stony Brook by 18-16 this past Saturday and kept rolling with a Tuesday afternoon win over Merrimack by a score of 14-11.

With these victories, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ snapped a five-year losing streak in season openers and home openers, and the team is now 2-0 for the first time since 2014.

Following Saturday’s win over the Seawolves, a pair of Stags were recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with weekly awards. Dylan Beckwith ’20 was named the CAA co-Player of the Week, and Trent Moran ’23 was tabbed as the CAA co-Rookie of the Week.

Beckwith racked up eight points against Stony Brook with five goals and three assists. His encore performance against Merrimack included four goals and two assists as the senior moved into ninth place on ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ’s all-time scoring list with 134 points in his career. Moran posted a hat trick in his collegiate debut with three crucial goals in the win over Stony Brook.

Up next, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ takes its first road trip and challenges its first nationally ranked foe of the 2020 campaign with a visit to #14/14 Georgetown. Action is back on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on the following Saturday, Feb. 29 for a 1 p.m. clash with in-state foe Quinnipiac.
