Starting in September, Encountering the Living God — inspired in its method and content by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola — takes participants through prayer and reflection under the personal guidance of one of the Murphy Center’s trained spiritual directors.
Encountering the Living God, the Murphy Center for Ignatian Spirituality at ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University’s hallmark prayer program, will take the Ignatian mission of finding God in all things to the virtual space this fall.
Starting in September, the 10-week directed prayer experience — inspired in its method and content by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola — takes participants through prayer and reflection under the personal guidance of one of the Murphy Center’s trained spiritual directors. Open to ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ students, faculty, staff, and members of the larger community, the program is for those who desire:
- a renewed sense of purpose, direction, and meaning,
- a deeper, more vibrant knowledge of — and relationship with — God,
- a greater understanding of what it means to be ‘contemplative in action,’
- and a means through which to find God in all things.
Participants will meet weekly with a spiritual director for 10 consecutive weeks throughout the duration of the program. This fall, however, the Murphy Center is offering the spiritual direction sessions via Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, or phone, allowing participants to engage with their spiritual director from the comfort of their own surroundings.
Individuals participating in the Encountering the Living God prayer experience can expect to set aside 30 to 60 minutes each day to spend in prayer and reflecting upon their experience of God. Participants will also meet remotely with their spiritual directors weekly for 45 minutes to discuss the experiences, interior movements, and insights they receive as a result of the time spent in prayer and reflection.
