Following this year's ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Awards Dinner, alumnus comedian of NBC's Last Comic Standing fame will bring his talents to the annual fundraising gala's after-party.
Since 1988, the annual ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Awards Dinner has been a true celebration of ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ and has raised more than $18 million for the Alumni Multicultural Scholarship Fund and other endowed scholarships.
Continuing to recognize professional achievement, outstanding leadership, and volunteer commitment to ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ, the 2019 ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Awards Dinner will take place on March 28 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.
Once the evening’s program and dinner have concluded, the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University Alumni Association will host an after party where will perform. “A big part of comedy is shared experiences, so it’ll be fun to talk about memories from our ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ days. I may name names,” DeVito said about what guests can expect from his stand-up routine.
DeVito, an English major while at ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ, served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper The Mirror, which was the beginning of his interest in comedy writing. These days, in addition to a full slate of stand-up performances in the U.S. and Canada, DeVito’s full-time comedy career is jam-packed with podcasts, panel appearances, teaching comedy workshops, and one-on-one coaching.
“Joe DeVito is the perfect person to perform at the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Awards Dinner,” said Joe Solimine Jr. ’89, a member of the awards dinner committee and a past recipient of the service award. “I cannot forget the way every interaction with Joe has left me laughing and generally in a better place. Since our time together on campus, I’ve happily followed Joe's career and hired him to perform at two events where he brought down the house."
