Women's Swimming and Diving Wins First-Ever MAAC Championship

Ostensen and Bruno Earn Major Awards at the All-Conference Meet

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Women’s Swimming and Diving won the first MAAC Championship in program history this past weekend in Buffalo, N.Y. The Stags were led by Sara Ostensen '21, who was named both the Most Outstanding Female Swimmer and the Rookie Female Swimmer of the Meet. In addition, first-year Head Coach Anthony Bruno was recognized by his peers as the MAAC Women's Coach of the Year.

The Stags earned a total of 718 points during the event to eclipse eight-time defending champion Marist, who finished with 658 points. Ostensen's many trips to the podium over four days included a pair of individual MAAC Championships as well as two conference titles as a member of the Stags' relay teams. She is the first Stag to ever win Most Outstanding Swimmer laurels and the first to collect a major award at the championship since Ashlee Steinberger '15 was tabbed as the Most Outstanding Female Diver in 2012.

Kelly Cordes '19 and Colleen Young '20 also each won two individual MAAC Championships in their respective events. Additionally, Cordes was part of four winning quartets in relay events -- a team-best. Morgan Hansen '21 and Maria Nitti '21 each earned an individual gold and swam legs on two winning relays. Rounding out ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ's individual champions, Sarah Herbold '21 was on three MAAC Champion relay units with Victoria Krivitsky '21 and Rachel Landry '21 each swimming as part of one winning relay team.

During the regular season, the Stags set a new program standard with an 11-3 record in dual meets.
