Celebrate Children’s Book Week at the Quick Center, May 4

Authors will present their new book, Rescue & Jessica, which tells the story of the love and teamwork between a girl and her service dog.

As part of Children’s Book Week, the longest-running national celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading, the Quick Center for the Arts is hosting an exciting event on Friday, May 4 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sponsored by the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University Bookstore, authors Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes and their black lab service dog named Rescue, will present the release of their new book, Rescue & Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship . This event is free and open to the public.

The story is based loosely on the couple’s own experiences as amputees, having both lost legs in the Boston Marathon bombing in 2014, and how their service dog has changed their lives. In the book, Rescue meets Jessica, a girl whose life is turning out differently than the way she’d imagined it. With Rescue by her side, Jessica is able to accomplish everyday tasks and live a life she loves.
