Jake Knostman '17 Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate
Jake Knostman ’17 of the ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University men’s lacrosse team has been selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award in collegiate lacrosse. Knostman is one of 20 candidates nationwide to be recognized for his achievements in the classroom, on the field and in the community.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
A double major in Information Systems and Economics, Knostman holds a 3.99 cumulative grade point average. He is a Dean’s List student, a Magis Scholar and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Omicron Delta Epsilon – the honor societies for business and economics, respectively. He was named to the ECAC All-America Team in 2014 and the CAA All-Academic Team in 2016.
On the field, Knostman is in his second campaign as a co-captain of the Stags. He has been a key member of three consecutive regular season championship squads (2014 ECAC, 2015 and 2016 CAA) and was named to the All-ECAC Rookie Team in 2014. Including three goals in the early stages of this spring, Knostman has racked up 60 career points with 48 goals and 12 assists.
Knostman has been a part of ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which organizes community service and fundraising initiatives. Most recently, he helped to spearhead his team’s participation in the HEADstrong Foundation’s Mustache Madness. Knostman personally raised over $1,000 as the Stags led all collegiate teams nationwide with $12,942 raised to benefit the HEADstrong Foundation, an organization committed to providing essential services to improve lives affected by cancer.
The 20 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award will be narrowed to 10 finalists to be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Championship in May.
