Stags Sports Back in Action This Weekend

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Women's Soccer opened 2017 with a 2-1 overtime win last weekend in Hawaii

Three teams hit the road, women’s soccer opens home schedule this Sunday against St. John’s

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University Athletics will be back in full swing this weekend with four teams in action across the country. The weekend slate will culminate on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. when ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Women’s Soccer hosts St. John’s on Lessing Field for the Stags’ first home contest of the 2017 season.

The Stags’ women’s soccer team has already kicked off the season in style, traveling to Hawaii for a pair of matches on the island of Oahu. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ began the trip with a 2-1 overtime victory over Houston Baptist, and was edged by host Hawaii, 2-1, in another overtime clash. This Sunday’s action will pit the Stags against a St. John’s team that won 11 matches last year en route to the Big East Championship Semifinals. Action from Lessing Field begins at 7 p.m. and will also be the first game to broadcast live on the new .

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Men’s Soccer will also begin its 2017 campaign far from campus with two matches in Oregon. The Stags trek to Oregon State on Friday night at 11 p.m. (ET) and Portland on Sunday at 8 p.m. (ET). ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ also makes a trip to Army West Point next week before kicking off its home slate on Monday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. against visiting Lafayette.

Two-time defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champion ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Volleyball starts the season at Boston College this Friday against the host Eagles at 7:30 p.m. The tournament will also see the Stags matched up with Alabama-Birmingham and Providence on Saturday. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ then heads out to Chicago for three matches next weekend, with action coming to George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall for the first time on Sept. 8-9 for a weekend tournament featuring Washington State and New Hampshire.

A tough test awaits ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Field Hockey in its season opener as the Stags head down to Charlottesville to challenge No. 10 nationally-ranked Virginia on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ will also visit William & Mary on Sunday to close out the southern trip before taking to University Field on Friday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. to host Hofstra.

Next weekend, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ Cross Country enters the fold as both the men’s and women’s teams participate in the Marist Season Opener on Saturday, Sept. 2 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
