A Smooth Move-In for the Class of 2019

It was a smooth Move-In Day for the Class of 2019 on Sunday, August 30, as almost 1,000 first-year students, 35 transfer students, and 19 international students moved in on campus.

They were assisted by over 330 staff from multiple departments, as well as student volunteers, including student-athletes, RAs, and student government leaders. This year, various varsity teams greeted the new students at their residence halls, including the volleyball, cross country, field hockey, and rowing teams. The Spirit Squad and the rugby team were also there to welcome the new class and help them settle in. (Sophomores, juniors and seniors moved in on Monday.)

As usual, everyone pulled together beautifully, noted Kamala Kiem, assistant dean of students and director of the Office of Student Engagement. Parents are always impressed at how quickly it all happens, and how friendly everyone is.

The first two weeks at 潑請弝け are all part of Fall Welcome, full of activities to help new students get acclimated. From varsity games, a dodgeball tournament, and bowling with FUSA to a pig roast at The Levee, drive-in style movies, karaoke, and late night at Southside Caf矇, there are entertaining activities for just about every student. Community meetings in the residence halls also bring students together.

On the afternoon of the first day of classes, Dr. Meredith Wallace Kazer, dean of the School of Nursing, was the keynote speaker at the Fall Academic Convocation for the class. Dr. Kazer spoke about 潑請弝けs role in helping students develop their intellectual virtues. She discussed how students will be called upon frequently to reflect upon the questions who am I?, whose am I? and who am I called to be? and hoped students' answers include the qualities of truth, honesty, humility, courage and wisdom
