Move-In Day, RecPlex Renovations, Career Planning and more…

A message from Dr. Thomas C. Pellegrino ’90, Senior Vice President for Student Affairs

Dear Parents,

‌I hope you and your families have enjoyed these summer months. We’ve been busy on campus, getting the residence halls ready, and updating technology across campus. This fall, there is new classroom technology, including Apple TVs and wireless projection in nearly 30 classrooms, iPads for all full-time faculty, mobile charging stations being set up, and digital signage keeping us up to date. In short, a multitude of departments across campus have been working hard to complete all the preparations to welcome our students to ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University.

The Class of 2019 will move in this Sunday, August 30, 2015 . Detailed schedules and other information can be found at . I know I am looking forward to that Sunday morning and the opportunity to great all of our newest Stags. Move-In is a special day—and one which ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ runs particularly well, I might add! We expect it will be an enjoyable and seamless experience for you.

I am often asked what students should plan to do in the first few weeks on campus. The Activities Fair on Friday, September 4 , at 4 p.m. is an excellent opportunity to see the many clubs, sports, and opportunities students can get involved in.

Career Planning Center

It is never too early to start thinking about careers. All students—even first-year students—should schedule a meeting with Career Planning early in the semester to start off on the right foot. The staff in the will help them update their resumes, think about their interests in relation to their studies, and tune them in to important timelines. Stags4Hire is our jobs and internship database. Students are now able to log in directly from my.fairfield.edu by clicking on the Stags4Hire icon. They can review and apply for internships and jobs throughout the year. Also, please note: The fall Career and Internship Fair is Wednesday, September 30 ; professional attire is required.

RecPlex Renovation

Renovation work is in ‌full swing on the Quick Recreational Complex, or “RecPlex.” We’re are excited at the prospect of a new recreational facility in 2016, and are also pleased to offer a myriad of fitness classes, intramurals and club sport opportunities while the facility is under construction. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University students are active users of recreational facilities and opportunities. This is a wonderful way of promoting the development of the student in body, as well as in heart and mind. Announcements of fitness classes and activities will be sent to all students via OrgSync on a weekly basis.

Mark your calendars now for October 23-25 for a momentous occasion in ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ’s history. In addition to the fun and excitement of our traditional Alumni & Family Weekend, this year we will also publicly launch our Capital Campaign. There will be opportunities for all families and alumni—complete with live music, great food, tours and presentations, and events for all ages and interests. See the feature article above or for more information.

As much as I look forward to welcoming all of you back, I also know that these are precious days for families. Enjoy your time with each other. It will be great to see you back on campus!
