Get Your Warrants Now: 8th Annual Jail N’ Bail on April 29

If you want to play a joke on one of your friends or colleagues and help a good cause, the University’s eight annual next Wednesday is your opportunity. for your friend’s “arrest” for only $5, and watch your friends leave in handcuffs and be transported to the mock jail in the BCC Circle.

Bail will be set depending on the “severity” of the warrant, and all proceeds will go to Special Olympics Connecticut. General donations to support Special Olympics are also gratefully accepted.

The event is hosted by the University’s Department of Public Safety (DPS). Generally, between 400 and 500 students, faculty and staff participate in Jail N’ Bail each year. “In past years, it has been hard to arrest all of the people participating because there are just so many,” said James O’Leary, a DPS officer.

In some years, professors have even had their whole class arrested to spark an interest and get people participating in the fundraiser.

“This event traditionally raises $20,000, which makes Ƶ University DPS the third largest police force donor in Connecticut for Special Olympics,” said O’Leary. The goal this year is $30,000.
