Friends of ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University Athletics off to a great start this fall

October was a busy month for the Friends of ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University Athletics, as several teams held special events in celebration of the past and looking toward the future.

Men's and Women's Basketball held their annual tip-off event in New York City at the Grand Hyatt. Alumni Mark Beckwith '80 and Diane Oakley '75 were honored with the Stags Distinguished Service Award for their contributions to the men's and women's basketball programs. Broadcasters Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery were selected for the Stags Lifetime Achievement Award for their contribution to college basketball and achieving excellence in their field.

Men's Lacrosse hosted a Friends dinner on October 25, bringing the current team, alumni, and friends together for an enjoyable evening. A sold-out crowd came together at The Westport Inn and watched the program honor former student-athletes and last year’s senior class. Joseph Kern ’74, John Callegari ’88, Michael Paradise ’94, Tim Gazzini ’07, and Sean Bannon ’11 were honored for their contribution to the program. Head Coach Andy Copelan also recognized the Class of 2014 for their role in last year’s successful season. .

Women's Soccer players from the 2005 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship team returned to campus in October for a special reception. They were also honored at a pregame reception and at halftime during a game that day against Monmouth University. .

Men's and Women's Rowing teams were also part of the busy Friends schedule when it hosted a special ceremony to dedicate three new boats to Francis J. Marx Sr. '76, Mark C. Reed ’96, and Christopher Duffy and Family. .
