Basketball Season Kicks Off

The ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ men’s basketball team opens its home schedule this weekend, taking the court at Webster Bank Arena for three games as a part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. The Stags opened their 2014-15 slate with a win over crosstown rival Central Connecticut State before trekking to Cameron Indoor Stadium to meet No. 4 nationally-ranked Duke. Now in the fourth season under Head Coach Sydney Johnson, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ will challenge Wofford on Friday (7 p.m.), Sam Houston State on Saturday (7 p.m.) and South Dakota on Sunday (2 p.m.). The Stags won a total of 48 games, including 24 home contests, in Johnson’s first three campaigns at ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ.


¼â½ÐÊÓƵ women’s basketball also opens its home schedule this weekend after a three-game road swing to tip-off the 2014-15 campaign. The Stags will welcome Butler to Alumni Hall on Saturday (1 p.m.) and entertain Ivy League foe Cornell on Monday (7 p.m.). ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ went 22-11 last winter, marking the fourth 20-win season under Head Coach Joe Frager and 10th in program history. The Stags are riding a six-game home winning streak after posting a 10-4 home record in 2013-14. Overall, ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ is 66-26 at home in Frager’s seven seasons on the sidelines.
