Plourde Named Preseason All-MAAC, Baseball Tabbed Sixth in Poll

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ University was picked to finish sixth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches Poll released this evening. Senior was named Preseason All-MAAC for the second consecutive year.

Plourde was an All-MAAC First Team and a NEIBA All-Star selection as a junior, after hitting .354 during with 19 multi-hit games. The outfielder collected 62 hits, 37 RBIs, 36 runs, 31 walks, and 87 total bases. He was 15-for-16 in the stolen base department and was the only Stag to start all 49 games last season. Plourde began 2013 by reaching base in 30 consecutive games and had an 18-game hitting streak which tied the program record. Plourde had an equally impressive summer, playing for the New Bedford BaySox of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) before spending the final two weeks of the summer with the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Entering his senior season, Plourde is ranked in the top-15 in several career categories at ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ.

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ went 20-29 overall during the 2013 campaign. The Stags won eight of their last 10 games of the year for an 11-13 MAAC record, finishing fifth in the league standings. ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ returns 24 Stags from last year's squad, with seven starting position players, including All-MAAC First Team selection , and the entire starting rotation returning.

Canisius College was picked to repeat as MAAC Champions finishing with 117 points while league newcomer Monmouth University was picked to finish second with 103 points. Rider University was third with 95 points followed by Siena College (86), Marist College (77) and ¼â½ÐÊÓƵ (69). Manhattan College was picked seventh with 57 points. Rounding out the group was Niagara University (37), Saint Peter's University (31), Iona College (28), and Quinnipiac University (26).

¼â½ÐÊÓƵ begins its 2014 campaign February 21-23 with a three-game series at North Florida.
