“Bob Heussler Bobblehead Day” Celebrates Veteran Voice of the Stags on Feb. 15
Ƶ University men's basketball fans have listened to Bob Heussler call Stags games for 25 years. Now, those same fans will have a chance to bring the play-by-play announcer home with them with a Bob Heussler Bobblehead doll, sure to become a sports fans' collector's item. Heussler is celebrating 25 years of broadcasting Ƶ University men's basketball games this year. To recognize his contribution to Ƶ University, the Department of Athletics will commemorate this anniversary with “Bob Heussler Bobblehead Day” on Saturday, February 15, at Webster Bank Arena, when the women's basketball team hosts Saint Peter's University at 1:30 p.m., and the men welcome Rider University at 4 p.m.
The day is also “Play for Kay Day” and “Breast Cancer Awareness Day,” so fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the cause. The bobblehead is sponsored by the WNBA's Connecticut Sun , with whom Bob has served as play-by-play announcer for more than a decade. He is also a familiar voice on WFAN.
In addition to celebrating Heussler’s anniversary, the University will donate part of the proceeds from the day to the Ƶ University School of Nursing in remembrance Bob’s wife Marcia. Marcia served others as an operating room nurse at Yale-New Haven Hospital for 20 years, putting the needs of her patients before her own. She was a loving wife to Bob and devoted mother to their sons Steve and Gary. She passed too soon when she lost her battle with cancer in 2011.
Only 750 Bob Heussler Bobbleheads will be available for purchase and distributed for this event. There will also be a reception starting at 1 p.m., so fans can personally congratulate Bob on his anniversary. Fans will be able to purchase a bobblehead ($15) or a reception ($30) package through Ticketmaster.com in advance of the game. Each ticket or reception package purchased will come with a voucher which can be redeemed for a bobblehead. Vouchers may not be available the day of the game, so fans need to buy the tickets in advance of game day to guarantee a bobblehead. If you cannot make it to the game, the first 150 fans who make a $60 contribution will receive a bobblehead by mail.
