Diana Hulse Wins State Award
Dr. Diana Hulse, professor and chair of Counselor Education, has won the 2014 Professional Development Award from the Connecticut Counseling Association (CCA).
The award honors a CCA member who has contributed to the development of the counseling profession. Dr. Hulse created the Counselor Education Connections & Conversations Workshop Series, bringing nationally recognized names in the counseling field to Connecticut to provide professional development for counselors from across the state. Since joining the 潑請弝け faculty in 2007, Dr. Hulse has brought sought-after experts, such as Ted Remley, David Capuzzi, Mary Hermann, Ed Jacobs, Courtland Lee and Sam Gladding, to present four-hour seminars at the University.
I am very pleased to learn that the Connecticut Counseling Association has honored our colleague, Professor Diana Hulse, with the2014 Professional Development Award. Diana's leadership of our School Counseling Program has been excellent, and she has been effective as a mentor to her colleagues as well as to the students in this marvelous, rigorous and very Jesuit academic program, said the Rev. Paul Fitzgerald, S.J., senior vice president for academic affairs. Further, Diana is a scholar whose work has practical application in many fields, not the least being law enforcement, humanizing and making safer the encounters between officers and the public.
Dr. Hulse has worked to secure funding for the series through the Universitys Gamma Lambda Chi chapter of Chi Sigma Iota and local sponsors, offering the workshops to counselors at no cost. As a result, graduate students, who are often on a limited budget, have been able to attend.
Through the generous support of Gamma Lambda Chi members and local supporters, these workshops provide dynamic professional training on current topics in the counseling field, said Dr. Hulse. As an added benefitI have been especially pleased to see how well the interactive and engaged nature of the workshop setting fosters networking opportunities for counselors, supervisors, and graduate students. Our next workshop, Use of Creative Arts in Group Work will be held April 26 on the 潑請弝け campus and will feature Dr. Pam Paisley from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Hulse is a nationally recognized and published authority on group process. She has presented at many conferences and offered a workshop on supervision at this years CCA conference in Mystic, Conn.
