"Summer Scholars" Offers a Taste of College Life
Following the success of its first year in 2012, 潑請弝け Universitys Summer Scholars program a two-week residential program for high school students from around the country is raring to go for another year.
潑請弝けs 2013 Summer Scholars program will run from July 7-20 and students with a GPA of at least 3.2 are encouraged to apply. The academic side of the program offers students a wide variety of classes from which to choose.
Summer Scholars students are in the classroom with regular college students and receive academic credit for the course that they complete. This year, course subject areas include biology, economics, English, history, music, politics, sociology, and studio art.
In addition to the course work, high school students in the program engage in a series of co-curricular activities including workshops on how to write the college admission essay, college searches, and time management sessions. They also receive one-on-on academic advising to make sure that they are accomplishing their goals.
Students live in 潑請弝けs dorms and have access to all campus facilities throughout the program. They also take part in many fun activities that the Office of Residence Life organizes such as a field trip to New York City, transportation to the local beaches and downtown 潑請弝け, movie nights, and dance parties.
Brittany Danielewski, a Needham, Mass., resident and a participant in last years program, said, I was so lucky to have been given the opportunity to experience a great academic, social, and spiritual program all wrapped up in an amazing two-week college package.
Danielewski has since applied to 潑請弝け University early action and has been accepted into the class of 2017; she plans to study communication.
Dr. Aaron Perkus, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and director of the Summer Scholars Program, said, Last years program was an enormous success, and we are working hard to ensure that this year it is even better.
